A personal certificate is a digital identity document that can be used to sign digital messages like email and news. It can also be used by other people to encrypt information that is for your eyes only. Once you exchange certificates with your friends or business partners you can correspond over the Internet in complete privacy.
Thawte's Web of Trust (WOT) is a unique, community-driven certification system based on face-to-face ID validation on a peer-to-peer basis. Once you have enrolled to the Thawte Personal Certification System, you can have your identity certified by a WOT Notary in your area.
Each notary you visit will give you between 5 and 35 trust points, depending on his experience level. You will need 50 trust points to have your name on your digital certificate, and 100 points to become a notary yourself.
